Residents in Mastin Moor have

put down roots on a fantastic

community project, thanks in

part to a £1,000 donation from

emh care and support. We

have donated the cash from

our Community Grant fund to

enable the volunteers to

purchase a poly tunnel, raised

beds and bulbs for their Food

for Thought Community

Garden. In October we also

donated free manpower to get

the new materials in place.

SOWING THE SEEDS

OF SUCCESS

Based in Staveley, Chesterfield,

Mastin Moor primarily houses

people with learning disabilities.

The community garden is

the brainchild of

Garry

Fothergill

, Support Worker at

Mastin Moor, who helped with a

Dragon’s Den style pitch for

the community fund.

The initiative will see the

people we support learn how

produce is grown and used

to cook meals. Any remaining

produce will be donated to

vulnerable people in the

community.

In January residents with learning

disabilities will take part in a

Forest School on the revamped

site. The session will be run by

Brightside, which is part of

Derbyshire County Council’s Adult

Community Education Service.

The activities help those taking

part develop their confidence and

self-esteem through practical

sessions.

We look forward to sharing

more updates as the keen

gardeners prepare for their

first harvest.
